Don't Break a Leg - Let's talk about Bone Health Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by low bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue, which can lead to increased risk of fracture. On average Osteoporosis affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men across Canada affecting a total of 2 million Canadians and although it is a disease that most commonly effects those over the age of 50, it can occur in people of all age ranges and ethnicity. Nutrition and exercise can play a significant role in keeping bones healthy. Because osteoporosis can have multiple causes, it’s important to be aware of all the factors that contribute to strong, healthy bones, and control those that you can. Let’s talk and learn about bone and joint health! Dr. Andrea Meneses is a family physician practicing the full breadth of family medicine in North Burlington, Ontario. Originally from Colombia, Dr. Meneses pursued her Master’s degree in Public Health from Boston University and relocated to Canada to complete her Family Medicine Residency post graduate training at McMaster University. In addition to her family practice, Dr. Meneses is an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University. With an increased interest in clinical procedures and aesthetics medicine, Dr. Meneses has expanded her training to include certifications in multiple medical cosmetic procedures including Botox, dermal fillers, sclerotherapy, treatment of hyperhydrosis, and PRP, stem cell protein extract, and microneedling for such cosmetic purposes as facial hyperpigmentation, skin and hand rejuvenation, scars, acne, stretch marks, and hair loss.
